Photo-Guide to Rhodes: Beaches, Old Town, Where to Eat

September 23, 2019

As you guys may have read, to get to the island Symi, you have to fly to Rhodes and catch a ferry from there. While it sounds like a bit of a treck, it gave me the perfect excuse to just stay a few days before returning to Athens. A friend of mine grew up in Rhodes and still has a house right outside the old town. Although my time here was short, it sure was sweet. I got to explore and wander through the beautiful and historic old down, visited various beaches, and of course ate well. I recommend all the experiences I had, although I would definitely have to add Lindos. I didnt get a chance to visit this year, but I hear that it is a beautiful and unique part of the island.

Beaches

Mojito Beach Bar

Located about an hour from the old town in Lachania, Mojito Beach Bar is pretty unique. There is something very hippie, and it feels as though you are lounging in the wild. There are tiki huts, teepees, and your regular sun-bed areas. There are also some great cocktails, and bonus everything is made from fresh fruit.

Kalami Beach Bar

Not far from the old town this is definitely for those who like a trendier upscale vibe. I loved spending the day here.

Elli Beach

Right outside of the old town, this beach is nice and definitely convenient.

Old Town

Rhodes old town is stunning to say the least. Walking around the ruins of this medieval castle is enough of an experience in itself and beautiful in its own right, however inside there is so much to do. There are plenty of great restaurants, cafes, cute boutiques, and some of the best bars and nightclubs. There is no wrong way to wander, just make sure you put it on top of your to-do.

Eat and Drink

Sissitio Bar

Awesome bar in the heart of the old town and you definitely feel as though you are in the center of history. The decor and ambiance was beautiful. I tried the Mexican Spicy cocktail and some tuna tartare tacos (which was really shrimp) but still tasty.

O Gialos

In the village Archangelos, in the heart of Stegna beach is O Gialos taverna. The food here was 100% worth the drive and left us incredibly satisfied. We had so many appetizers I can not even begin to think of them all. However the showstopper was the seafood pasta with shrimps and ouzo. The huge portion is perfect for sharing, delicious, and perfect photo opp for Instagram.

It was! Hard question!! I really have not been to a Greek island that I didn’t love. Depends on what you are looking for. There is definitely something for everyone.
