NYFW Recap: Chocheng & Tia Adeola + Shop My Look

February 22, 2020

Day two of fashion week did not disappoint me! I attended Chochengs FW2020 as well as up and coming designer Tia Adeola, and both had such beautiful collections. While these designers have completely different aesthetics, one major takeaway was the colors that we will be seeing next fall and winter. See below for more details and images on the shows!

Also can we talk about this hair that I was able to get styled between shows….
Between the rain and running around, like I said it gets kind of hard to look cute. Luckily Spring Studios has an express dry styling bar. HUGE thank you to Tresemme for this Old Hollywood Glam Style

Chocheng

Chocheng brought us women with authority, both feminine and edgy. Inspired by iconic women in film between the 20s and 80s, this collections muse was largely Shirley Maclaine in The Apartment and the shift of ideologies such as tuxedos being only for men. While there was structure in the tailoring for a more sophistacted fit, Chocheng opts for a style that gives form and function but is non restrictive. The bright pops of pink and green were definitely an unexpected choice in color palette but very eye-catching and unique especially when paired with grounded black and the vampy lips. I also loved the array in collars he chose, all glamorous and in a timeline of different eras. The black lineup was my favorite (no bias of being a die hard, all black loving New Yorker), but the “fur” collars which are made from hand ruched tulle were magnificent.

Tia Adeola

Tia Adeolas collection definitely stood out from what we have been seeing for this season. Bold colors, sheer and open cut silhouettes, and artwork (actual artwork). Tia Adeola intertwined her background in art history, to give us wearable art for women, with a special spotlight on black women throughout periods of history and their untold stories. Tia created prints of her favorite paintings and I especially loved them within her sheer dresses and tops. She also didn’t forget to include her signature ruffles in many of the looks, which we all love so much. Some of my favorite pieces were the final three looks, as I love the intricate lace, pearl, and bead details. This show was not only diverse but exuded so much power and confidence.
