Where To Dine This Valentines Day: Anassa Taverna

February 12, 2022

With an overwhelming amount of options of where to eat this Valentines Day weekend, trust me I have lots of suggestions. NYC is not lacking in the good restaurant department. One option is a tried and true spot of mine, Anassa Taverna. Not only perfect for a date night with your hunny, Anassa is definitely great for a girls night out also and is place that I have returned to with my gal pals continuously. It is trendy with really nice ambiance, decor, and great quality modern Greek food. A great option for a nice night out that you can kind of dress up for, but is also someplace you don’t need to be too overdone.

I have definitely made quite a dent in this menu and tried a bunch of the options. If you haven’t already checked it out definitely visit my last post featuring Anassa here, with a rather large run down of the menu items I tried. Of course, we have returning staple items like the classics: octopus, saganaki and halloumi. However I also wanted to take the opportunity to add some additions to the roster of foods I’ve tried from a more recent visit. I’ll keep it short and sweet.

Beet salad Anassa Taverns
BEETS
Roasted red & golden, pistachio pesto, orange, manouri cheese, mint.

Fresh ingredients and nice flavors, the beets are a great option for something fresh and a change up to the usual Greek salad (Xoriatiki) order.

LOBSTER RAVIOLI
Homemade with fine herbs, shallots vermouth in cream sauce

One of the least traditional Greek dishes has become one of the most standout orders that I have tried at Anassa. I was thoroughly impressed with the Lobster Ravioli. It was so flavorful and filling. Also, sign me up for a large jar of this cream sauce. I could eat it with just about anything.

DOÑA FRIDA
Verde Memento Mezcal, Tanteo Chipotle,
(Infused Herbs: Thyme, Rosemary, Mint, Basil) Pineapple, Lime

The Selene is usually my go-to cocktail here (and definitely a fan favorite) but every so often when I mix it up the Dona Frida is a nice option also. It is more balanced and smoky. The cocktails at Anassa are generally winners, and also very Instagram worthy.

When I heard the dessert options, I was a little less than intrigued but once they came out they were surprisingly delicious. The cake was moist and tasty. The yogurt cherry combo was absolutely excellent and creamy, and I loved the ice cream flavor and texture as well. I’d recommend all three.

Like I said, the options are endless but to get you started I linked some great picks all over New York, including locations on Long Island, NYC, and Brooklyn.
