While a bittersweet time, September has always felt like a gentle reboot after the endless social energy of the summer, this month comes as a chance to pause, reflect, set intentions for coming month. It’s the perfect moment to reclaim focus, refresh routines, and step into the new season with clarity.
1. Reset Your Space
Let’s face it, many of us haven’t been spending much time home (rightfully so with the beautiful weather) but that may mean that household chores and spaces may have seen some neglect. As we set into September refresh your space with a once over tidy (you can save the deep clean for winter). I think this is a great period to declutter your desk, and organize the other spaces in your home, creating a fresh canvas of space to redesign it for the coming cozy fall months. Think candles, soft throws, or a small bouquet of fresh flowers. A refreshed space instantly sets a calmer, more intentional tone and the new vibe will inspire the coming season.
2. Reset Your Routine
After summer’s spontaneity, a September reset is about re-establishing rhythms. Routines can fall by the waistside especially when we are traveling or in vacay mode. While I love the freedom and play that the summer brings, come September when its back to the office and back to school for some, consider getting back to basics with your morning routines.
Some aspects I have integrated this summer have been taking advantage of the beautiful weather and getting out in natural sunlight first thing with my lemon water. I know we all worked hard for that summer body so keep the momentum going by re implementing that work out schedule.
It is also a great time to get back into work life flow by reassessing your calendar and evaluating your priorities and what matters most. The beauty of summer is having that space and time to take for ourselves for things that bring us joy, be sure to continue scheduling that in September and beyond. Remember to keep those small rituals that anchor your day like some time for a walk outdoors, or making time to read.
Small tweaks here can make a huge difference and having a routine helps in mental clarity and productivity.
3. Reset Your Wardrobe
My guess is that for many of us the beach gear and bikinis won’t be of too much use going forward. The first step in any seasonal reset is your environment. Clean or switch out your closet to more transitional and fall pieces to prepare for the change in weather. The September months may feel tricky to dress for with the fluctuating temperatures so be mindful to keep options that are great for both extremes and have layering pieces. If when going through your closet you found there are things you haven’t worn and wouldn’t again consider donating them to make space for the new. Think of it as curating a wardrobe that’s both functional and inspiring.
4. Reset Your Mindset
A September reset is about more than space and stuff—it’s about intention. Reflect on the summer: what energized you, what drained you, and what lessons you’re carrying forward. They say sitting in gratitude brings more things to be grateful for so revel in all your magic moments and peace of the season. It will give you a great jumping off point to get re-focused in your regular post summer life balance. Set realistic goals for the next few months, whether personal, professional, or creative. Think of where you want to be before the end of 2025 and small achievable steps and benchmarks of how you can get there.
5. Social Reset
This may be a curveball for you but after the carefree chaos of summer your social battery may need searching and September is a great time to take inventory of your relationships and how you spend your social energy. It is great to be intentional about who you surround yourself with, how you network and what communities you want to lean into the rest of the year. This could mean reconnecting with friends and scheduling time this quarter to continue fun social activities and experiences, or putting yourself in rooms where growth can happen whether personally or professionally. Don’t forget your digital space counts and it’s liberating to curate it around people who support and inspire you.
Summer is a beautiful time to relax and recharge the perfect springboard to reset and refocus back into work life and day to day life. By resetting your space, your routines, your wardrobe, your mindset, and your social life you step into the season refreshed, focused, and ready for whatever comes next. There is still plenty of time to finish the year strong.
