A short 50 min boat ride away from Split, and the next destination on the Yacht Week itinerary is Brac and one of my favorite islands of Croatia! I mean I guess they all are…but I definitely make it a point to visit Brac every year during my summer visits. When visiting I highly recommend you don’t skip on Bol, home to to the “symbol of the Adriatic”, Zlatni Rat beach. Bol is one of the most known and noteable towns of the island, a sun-drenched jewel of the Adriatic that blends natural beauty with effortless seaside charm. It’s no wonder Bol is one of the most beloved destinations in Croatia offering the perfect balance of relaxation, beachside dining, nightlife, and iconic views.
☀️ Zlatni Rat: Croatia’s Most Famous Beach
Let’s start with the obvious: Zlatni Rat Beach, the star of every Bol postcard and even that of Croatia. Known as the “Golden Horn,” this shape-shifting spit of smooth white pebbles juts out dramatically into the turquoise Adriatic and is a must-visit whether you’re swimming, sunbathing, windsurfing, or snapping pics from a drone. On the way to this famed beach is a beautiful, I guess you could call it a street, but a pathway under the pines with lots of cute boutique stands for souvenirs and a bunch of restaurants and cafes. On your walk you’ll find access to a bunch of the beautiful beaches below you. You can’t go wrong no matter which you choose.
As golden hour hits, the entire promenade glows. Locals and travelers gather by the water with gelato or wine in hand to take in the unforgettable sunsets that paint the sky in soft pinks, golds, and fiery orange. It’s not just beautiful — it’s magic.
Beach Bliss at Ured
One of Bol’s best-kept secrets, Ured Beach is a small, tucked-away cove just past the harbor that offers a quieter, more local vibe. The water here is crystal-clear, and there’s a rustic beach bar for cold drinks and light snacks. It’s a great spot to escape the Zlatni Rat crowds for a while.
Borak Beach
Just between Bol’s harbor and Zlatni Rat, Borak is a pebble beach lined with lounge chairs, water sports, and restaurants. It’s perfect if you want easy access to everything — beach bars, rentals, windsurfing school, and shaded spots under the pine trees.
Hidden Gem: The Military Tunnel
Looking for something off the beaten path? Just outside Bol near Zlatni Rat, hidden in the rugged cliffs, lies a former military tunnel used by the Yugoslav navy. Built during the Cold War, this secret submarine hideout was designed to shelter naval vessels from surveillance and attack.
Today, it’s a fascinating relic of history. Accessible by boat or kayak, it’s a striking contrast to the beaches and bars — dark, cool, and echoing with stories of a different time. Local tour operators offer guided visits, and it’s a favorite stop for those wanting a touch of mystery and a killer Instagram backdrop.
🍷 Sip & Savor: Where to Eat & Drink in Bol
STINA Vina
Set in a former wine cooperative right on Bol’s waterfront, Stina Winery is a beautiful place to sample island-made wines like Pošip, Vugava, and the bold local red Plavac Mali. It has such a cute set up with cushions on the edge, leaving your feet to dangle over the sand. Those seats do tend to fill up quickly but there is plenty of extra seating both indoors and outdoors. This claims to be the first Dalmatian Wine Cooperative and while I am a little uneducated about the vineyards history, I can say one thing, this bottle of sparkling wine was delicious. It is also a great ambiance for a date night.
Auro Cafe
The perfect morning stop or midday break, Auro Cafe serves coffee, smoothies, and light bites with chill beach vibes and sea views. Lounge in a sun chair, check your messages, and fuel up for the afternoon ahead.
Bolero Cocktail Bar
Steps from Zlatni Rat and nestled under a canopy of pines, Bolero is a beachside cocktail bar with laid-back music, cozy seating, and a breezy boho vibe. Come here for an Aperol Spritz or cold mojito after a long swim — or stay longer and watch the sky turn pink. By day it has ocean views and your surrounded by all the pine trees, feeling like you have your own secluded space.
Taverna Riva
For dinner with a view, Taverna Riva sits right on the harbor and serves classic Dalmatian dishes like grilled squid, seafood pasta, and fresh fish caught that morning. The wine list leans local, and the vibe is unpretentious yet elegant — ideal for date night or a celebratory group dinner.
Crni Rizot (Black Risotto) is own of my favorite foods ever and I would say is the number one recommendation I have food wise when visiting Croatia. It’s filling, not outrageous in price, and completely delicious. This one from Taverna Riva was extremely well done. The restaurant also has beautiful views and really great service. It is located directly on the Riva (or main port boardwalk) so really convenient to grab a nearby drink or go for a walk after.
Pizzeria Topolino
Sometimes, all you want is really good pizza, and Topolino delivers. This local favorite makes wood-fired pies with a thin, crispy crust and fresh toppings. Bonus: they offer gluten-free options and the outdoor seating is perfect for people-watching on a summer night.
Varadero Cocktail Bar
As the sun sets, Varadero transforms into Bol’s buzzing nightlife spot. With DJ sets, seaside cocktails, and dancing until late, it’s the go-to for those who want to party without leaving the island. The crowd is a mix of travelers and locals — and the mojitos are dangerously good.
Dinner with a View: Put Zlatnog Rata
For a special dinner, head toward Put Zlatnog Rata, the tree-lined walkway between town and Zlatni Rat beach. Here you’ll find Zlatni Rat Beach Resort Restaurant, a hidden gem serving beautifully plated seafood, grilled meats, and seasonal specials. The setting is relaxed-luxury: candlelit tables, views of the sea through the trees, and a soft breeze in the air. It’s the kind of place where dinner turns into a full evening affair.
July Festival Magic in Bol
If you visit in July, you’re in for something extra special. The Bol Summer Festival brings the town to life with open-air concerts, street performers, local artisans, and food vendors lining the harbor. From traditional Dalmatian klapa music to modern DJs and live jazz at sunset, every night feels like a celebration.
As golden hour hits, the entire promenade glows. Locals and travelers gather by the water with gelato or wine in hand to take in the unforgettable sunsets that paint the sky in soft pinks, golds, and fiery orange. It’s not just beautiful — it’s magic.
Whether you’re here for the beaches, the wine, the food, or the festivals — Bol has it all. From famous shores like Zlatni Rat to secret swimming spots, and from waterfront cocktails to starlit dance floors, it’s an Adriatic experience that feels effortless, sun-drenched, and unforgettable.
