There are fashion presentations and then there are moments. Frederick Anderson’s Resort 2027 collection — shown yesterday in an intimate salon at Printemps’ stunning new home at 1 Wall Street — was decidedly the latter.
The collection is called “A Night in Careyes.” If you know Careyes — the private Mexican coastal enclave that has quietly become one of the most beautiful places on earth — you understand immediately what Frederick was reaching for. The feeling of arriving somewhere extraordinary and simply letting go. Spa-like serenity. The particular ease of a woman who is exactly where she wants to be.
Asked to describe the collection in a single word, Frederick didn’t hesitate. Divine.
The clothes earn it. Hand-done florals sit alongside leather trims in combinations that simply work. A red piece — bold, unapologetic — came with its own philosophy: “When you’re in Mexico, you have to have red.” He’s right. You do.
But the throughline of the whole collection, the thing Frederick keeps returning to when he talks about his work, is joy. “Life will always get you down,” he said “But we can — and should — always focus on the joy.”
His woman this season is having the time of her life. She’s going somewhere. She’s dressed for it. And — his words, perfectly chosen — “she doesn’t give a shit.”
That unselfconsciousness is the hardest thing to design for and the thing Frederick Anderson does better than almost anyone working today. The collection shown at Printemps — a significant new retail partner for the brand and a landmark space in its own right — felt like a statement of exactly that. Joy as intention. Ease as a design philosophy. A night in Careyes, brought to lower Manhattan.
In a season where much of fashion feels preoccupied with spectacle, Frederick’s message felt refreshingly straightforward. The luxury wasn’t excess. It was the permission to enjoy yourself. To travel. To celebrate. To wear color. To embrace beauty without overthinking it. In many ways, that may be the most relevant message of all for Resort 2027.
