NYC Eats: Barn Joo Union Square

Just a little quick Thursday post summing up my experience at Barn Joo. Typically Barn Joo is a spot that serves up Korean BBQ. While that all sounded quite delicious, we stopped in just for a happy hour and some lighter bites. Barn Joo has a great happy hour with some DELICIOUS cocktails. I highly recommend the Serrano Margarita if you love spicy cocktails like I do. It is definitely one of the better ones I have had. For those who like a lighter more balanced cocktail I also really enjoyed the Beeline, (photographed below). It was so tasty and one of the more unique cocktails that I have tried. Also I am a sucker for oysters, which we ordered with the shrimp cocktail as well. No complaints on either order.

Popcorn Chicken
{ spicy } chicken thigh, black sesame seed,
roasted peanuts, chive, béchamel sauce

Fried Tiger Roll
tuna, salmon, avocado, kani, pickled radish, micro greens

For more items off the menu we tried the popcorn chicken and the fried tiger roll and really enjoyed both. The chicken was packed with flavor and had a nice crunch and texture aspect. The sushi roll was also really delicious and I would definitely recommend that as well.

Beeline
Butterfly lavender vodka, honey, lemon

The atmosphere is really large but cozy casual and has two convenient locations, one in union square and one right in midtown. The service and management were exceptional and so fun and friendly. It really made all the difference to making this restaurant that more memorable from a place you check out for a quick drink after work, to one that becomes your regular happy hour location. Overall we had a great experience and will definitely be back, especially to try more off the menu.

With that said, it is Halloween weekend! Do you all have any fun plans. If not and you’re feeling festive, or need a last minuet “baking” suggestion, be sure to check out my recent post on these no bake Halloween pie recipes.
