NYFW: Gita Omri Fall 2024 Unclassified

“Unclassified” is this season’s collection by Gita Omri, and is an exploration of the designer’s personal journey as an Israeli American. Having grown up in her native Israel and serving in the country’s airforce, the current climate in Gaza truly hits home for her and brings nostalgia to her mandatory service years. “For her Winter 2024 collection she took the hard utilitarian details commonly found on uniforms and contrasted that with the innate free spirited softness of the Israeli people.”

The collection pieces as well as the models were diverse, in full spectrum. Models of all sizes and ethnicities showcased garments from sporty and functional to whimsical and feminine. There was also contrast in the colors used from more neutral olives and terra cottas, to mustard yellows, mint green and lavender. There were also pieces that encompassed both the feminine and more masculine sporty combo, such as in a winning look of a peach print taken from a painting the designer completed of the Wailing Wall In Jerusalem, covered in cargo pockets, a detail I quite enjoyed in other pieces as well throughout the collection. I was also a big fan of the deep teal series combining a bomber-style jacket and making it a little more glam with a fur collar as well as adding the chic detail of the split sleeve in the jacket style before.
