NYFW: Laurence Basse FW24 Burn The City Collection

Laurence Basse FW24 Burn The City

French designer and leather expert Laurence Basse returned to New York Fashion week to introduce the fashion world to her label LAURENCE BASSE PARIS. After a successful modeling career, after being discovered by legendary Jean-Paul Gaultier back in the 90s, Basse used the money as a stepping stone to enroll into fashion school and has since evolved her career, becoming a Project Runway runner up, designer for multiple celebrities and continues to grow in the industry.

For this solo debut for NYFW, Basse used the word “Warrior” to describe her collection entitled “Burn The City”, and explains how the collection is a reflection of what is going on in the world at the moment, an intersection of so much beauty and pain and drew inspiration from themes of war and peace.

As her instagram bio says, “Leather is my specialty,” and her expertise is evident drawing from the clean lines and structural elements of buildings, framing it as architecture of the body. This blend and blur of gender, art and architecture, hard vs soft, come together in a style that has a raw versatility and exuded strength and character, but with a few soft feminine touches sprinkled in.

I think Manhattan being at the forefront of fashion and architcture was the perfect location to show this collection. With a lot of black, I found it to be very NYC chic. The duality of a leather bullet proof vest inspired top with a flowy maxi skirt gave me modern day Xena Warrior Princess, and I am here for it. I also found the collection to be bold but most definitely wearable, and easy to mix and match for a variety of people.
