A beautiful violin and cello performance in the background and a stunning view of the Manhattan Skyline set the stage for Aiste Hong’s Fall Winter collection. Entitled “White Nights”, the collection is inspired by nights in Europe that never darken, with an interplay of light and dark, high contrast, and an exploration of textures and unexpected silhouettes as a key theme throughout. The collection achieved a balance in garments with strength and structure, while providing sexy femininity.
The designs are classic however there is always an element of surprise. Whether through a pop of color such as in the fur shawl over the all-black ensemble, the ultra-feminine georgette gown styled with edgy leather gloves, or a little twist on the draping, the woman Aiste Hong designs for is not basic. She is a fashion lover. While the designs are wearable, they are very avant garde with their own artistic and sculptural nature.
This collection was deeply personal to Aiste, and a nostalgic homage to her childhood memories, capturing the mysticism, serenity and quiet enchantment of nature, especially during her favorite season, Fall. In celebrating nature and a continued commitment to sustainability, there were various usages of eco-conscious materials and artisanal craftsmanship focused on in the collection. What Aiste brings is unique and fresh to the fashion world but in a way that we can and will see on and off the runway. For a second collection, this one definitely did not disappoint.
