Happy March!
February wasn’t what I expected.
From what’s usually a bustling month of fashion week events and birthday celebrations this last month turned out to be a real pause and re-evaluation. Which leads me to my early Spring time edit.
It’s a natural instinct to add when the seasons change — add color, events, travel, newness. But this year I’m doing the opposite
For this month, I am taking a hard core edit of my goals, and lifestyle.
For starters and a big one– I took inspiration from my father who has fasted meat every lent since I can remember. This year, I decided I would do it also. No meat and I also threw in alcohol — with the exception of wine (even Jesus drank wine after all.)
Call it spiritual. Call it symbolic. Call it a cleanse.
What matters is this journey of semi-sobriety and detoxing from meat I am hoping leads to clearing the cache of the physical and mental clutter.
In addition, I also decided to edit my calendar.
Living in New York means there is always something to attend, somewhere to be, someone to see. Alcohol, especially, is deeply woven into the social fabric of this city and the industries I move through. To help minimize the temptation, I am choosing to step back from events and being “in the scene.”
Choosing to step back — even temporarily — isn’t about isolation and this doesn’t mean I’ll be off grid but just emphasizes that I am simplifying and keeping things more selective – especially relative to the goals I have set.
This isn’t about depriving its refining. Will this new lifestyle last? Likely not — but it’s also not supposed to. I am unapologetically a carnivore, who loves a well crafted cocktail.
But this felt like the perfect time to hop off the hamster wheel and get back to basics. There is a constant temptation to chase– more projects, more output, more visibility and there are simply never enough hours in a day. In that pursuit things become scattered and essentially leads to the stagnacy we are running to avoid.
I have had so many projects and goals on my mind that have taken a back seat when in constant fight or flight mode of the everyday hustle. They say insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results. So time for a new approach. Maybe its a challenge to you all to re-evaluate what’s possible but do so in a way that’s truly elevated rather than sloppy execution.
Quality over quantity. Selective over saturated. Edited over excessive.
Let’s scale back to spring forward.
