My favorite summer makeup look involves a high shine gloss. Strike that, I love a high shine gloss at all times and for any season. Add a good plumping effect and you have me very intrigued. These products by Patrick Ta, Fenty, and Lawless are newer to the market and all claiming to deliver plumping effects. Let’s see how that went down in my first impression of these products.

LAWLESS Forget The Filler Lip Plumper Line Smoothing Gloss
Claims: Immediate and long-term softening, hydrating, and visibly plumping benefits. Highlighted Ingredients: - MAXI-LIP™: Scientifically and clinically shown to visibly increase lip volume by 40 percent. - Shea Butter: Hydrates and soothes the lips. - Hyaluronic Acid: Makes lips feel pillowy soft. Vegan and clean at sephora
I love this gloss. I think it is very high shine, and it smooths over the lips beautifully. It is quite sheer but not completely, and the soft pink is easy to work with and looks great on top of almost any other lip product you want to use under it. While I can’t attest to any visibly plumping benefits (maybe those will come over time, as Lawless claims it boosts collagen in the lips with consistent use), I do love it and have made it a staple in my makeup routine. There are seven shades in the range. I used the shade Daisy Pink.

Fenty Beauty by Rihanna Gloss Bomb Heat Universal Lip Luminizer + Plumper
Claims: Gloss Bomb Heat has an innovative Plump Job Complex that contains a blend of ingredients designed to gently plump lips for an undeniably fuller pout. The conditioning shea butter and vitamin E help lock in moisture for an intense wet-look shine finish. Highlighted Ingredients: - Shea Butter - Vitamin E Gluten Free and Cruelty Free
Another gorgeous gloss, although I’d expect nothing less from Fenty as their original Gloss Bomb formula is one of my favorites. I will be honest though, aside from a little heat action, I don’t notice too much difference in the formulas. If there was any “plumping” going on I definitely think it was more psychological. But nonetheless, I love the product and Hot Cherry is a beautiful shade. It gives you that your lips but better, I just ate a summer popsicle stain, and it is also definitely high shine. There are five shades in this range as well. Another winner in my book.

PATRICK TA Major Volume Plumping Lip Gloss
Claims: In this hydrating, high-shine gloss, stimulating plant-based ingredients visibly volumize lips upon application while concentrated actives boost the look of plumpness over time. Highlighted Ingredients: - Hydrating, Plumping Peptide: Gives lips a firmer, fuller look while supporting skin’s natural moisture barrier. - Cinnamon and Ginger: Rapidly and visibly volumize while adding natural color.
Patrick Ta did it again. This formula looks like complete glass on the lips. It is so high shine and reflective it almost even gives a mirror like effect. Again, from a plumping stand point, maybe you get some kind of optical illusion of fuller poutier lips because of how glossy it is, but nothing drastically different. Similarly to the Lawless gloss, this one boasts that it boosts collagen in the lips with consistent use over time. I guess we’ll have to see about that. I used the shade Pouty but there are five shades from the line.

Hate to spoil the review, but I don’t think I can really pick a favorite. These are all FANTASTIC formulas and none really deliver on plumping so as a benchmark, that is out of the evaluation. As with most glosses, the lasting power isn’t the best, but none of the three are slick to which they will slide all over your face. From a price point they are all similar (Fenty and Patrick Ta at $24 and Lawless at a whopping dollar extra). While they are all high shine, I do think Patrick Ta wins in this category with that glass mirror affect slightly more superior to the others. But I refuse to commit to a decision. I truly believe that they are all favorites. I instantly fell in love with every single one I tried and do/would continue to use and repurchase all three. So in this review Lawless, Patrick Ta, Fenty, job well done. You’re all winners in this battle.
