So not too far from Miami is Fort Lauderdale, a little more casual but actually not necessarily low key. Fort Lauderdale definitely brings in large crowds of it’s own and has picked up during the pandemic especially as people moved south to escape the cold and harsher COVID restrictions – if you didn’t know Florida is very lax with their protocols, if any exist at all.
There are definitely some cute spots to check out. The Las Olas strip is one that is bustling with action and there are tons of casual but lively spots on the beach of Fort Lauterdale. Here is the run down of options I tried during my visit.
Tacocraft

Hass avocado, smoked bacon, charred corn, cotija cheese, piquillo peppers, onion, cilantro
I actually really loved Tacocraft. I liked its trendy cantina vibe and through the food was really good also. The guacamole was excellent and a great change from the basic version. I also played a little taco roulette and tried a bunch of options from the taco menu. None disappointed but I think the Korean short rib was definitely one of my favorites.

Sweet & spicy glaze, pickled cucumbers, asian slaw, green onion, gochujang aioli

Adobo-chile rub, queso fresco, charred pineapple, salsa verde, crema

Achiote marinade, charred pineapple, crispy kale, pickled red onion, avocado tomatillo sauce
CRISPY SHRIMP
Tempura-battered, mango salsa, spicy mayo, cilantro
CARNE ASADA
Grilled skirt steak, queso fresco, refried black beans, garlic chimichurri aioli, watercress
They also have really great happy hour and Taco Tuesday deals to check out. Don’t skip out on the margaritas. They were great and boozy and the perfect addition to the meal.
Blues Burgers

3 Grass Fed sliders,
Texas Flood (Grass fed Beef burger with crispy fried onions, feta cheese and bbq sauce on a brioche bun.)
Soul Man (Grass fed Beef burger with prosciutto, brie, on a brioche bun.)
Damn Right I Got The Blues(Grass fed Beef burger swiss cheese, sauteed onions, mushrooms, red peppers, spicy mayo on a brioche bun.)
Blues Burgers is one of those casual spots serving up a large bar food selection and lots of burger options. I tried the slider sampler which was good. I think it is definitely a good option when you can’t make up your mind of which to get and they have two different sampler options. Blues Burgers also has live music outside.
Greek Islands

Kefalotiri Cheese
PIKILIA
Assortment of four traditional dips – Tzatziki, Melitzanosalata, Scordalia and Tyrokafteri, served with Pita
Greek Islands has some solid taverna style Greek food. We stuck with a lot of the classics, Saganaki, a Pikilia (dips) and I had lamb chops as my entree. I have to say with someone that has high standards for Greek cuisine, I can definitely vouch for Greek Islands. The interior is also very no frills but typical to the real deal taverna style you’d find in Astoria Queens (NY) or even Greece.

Char-broiled and seasoned with Lemon, Oregano and Olive Oil with Patates Ladoregano and Vegetables
