Holiday Pies and The Cooperage Inn Review

Wine season is on its way out, and pumpkin/ apple picking season is really dwindling down (if not already gone). For many city people, the reasons to venture out on the island are getting fewer and fewer. However with Thanksgiving only a few days away and the holidays around the corner, if you do find yourself near the area or willing to make the trip, it would be a great idea to pick up some fresh and homemade pies!

Briermere farms in Riverhead has an amazing pie selection, and the few that I have tried were delicious. All the pies are made on the farm from scratch with fruits grown on the property. They also have a hugely extensive selection of jams/jellies to gift, and tons of fresh produce and flowers. No pressure but be sure to stock up while you can as the farm closes from December 24th till Spring.

Also nearby, in Bating Hollow, is the Cooperage Inn. This huge space is almost as if a normal American restaurant and a traditional cottage merged. They have an awesome prix-fixe lunch deal ($29 for an appetizer, entree, and dessert), and the food was really enjoyable too with lots of cozy comfort food options like their famous chicken pot pie. Overall a great dining experience.

Clam Chowder – The Soup of the Day

Really nice and light clam chowder soup – A great way to start.

Catch of the Day – Sea Bass Blackened

The Catch of the Day obviously changes, but this one was a really nice piece of fish. You have the option of having it prepared in a variety of ways (broiled, pan seared, or blackened) I highlyyyy recommend you choose blackened.

Coconut Creme Pie

This pie was perfect, perfect, perfect. A delicious filling and even the crust was exceptional with a some kind of cinnamon note. It also tasted really fresh!
