If you’ve been meaning to catch Jeff Ross’s Broadway debut Take a Banana For the Ride, this is your warning: the curtain is coming down September 28, 2025 at the Nederlander Theatre.

What makes this show worth the ticket — and why time is of the essence? Let me peel back the layers.

What It Is

Jeff Ross, better known as the “Roastmaster General,” has built a career roasting everyone from celebrities to presidents. But this show is different.

  • It’s a solo, one-man show — raw, personal, unguarded.
  • It mixes jokes with touching family stories and reflections on loss, love, identity.
  • Ross draws from 30 years of working in comedy, from childhood struggles (losing both parents young) to recent health challenges.
  • Humor isn’t all; there are songs, visual storytelling, and moments that aim to uplift even in grief.

What I Think

This show was exceptional. Truly. One of the ones that I would see for a second time even in a short touring span. Why? Because it is real. This is real life and it evokes that sense of not feeling alone or so doom and gloom in the struggles of the world. Jeff Ross has overcome quite a bit in his life, and yet still finds a way to laugh and make others laugh. It was emotional but just when you think it might get the best of you, he says something hilarious to change the mood. It leaves you inspired and a belief in having resiliency and that this too shall pass.
