Long Island Eats: Spuntino Wine Bar And Italian Tapas

Another Long Island hit in my humble opinion. Sputino Wine Bar and Italian Tapas definitely impressed during a last minuet local happy hour search. Not only do they have a great happy hour menu (although you can only partipate sitting at the bar) there are over 55 wines by the glass, over 350 by the bottle, four wines on tap, and three wine flights offered daily. The food also definitely did not disappoint and I love the idea of tapas and trying a bunch of different shared plates. Bonus was that even the portion sizes were pretty generous although they are considered “small bites.” I also love that the menu is seasonal and they change things up four times a year working with many local farms for the freshest ingredients.

Here is some of what we ordered:

Seasonal (Summer) Watermelon Salad

Currently if you were to go, the menu has changed to the autumn salad, so I won’t spend too much time here other than we definitely enjoyed it. You can even tell through the screen of how vibrant the ingredients were.

TRUFFLED ARTICHOKE HEARTS
Truffle oil, Parmesan cheese, breadcrumbs

I am a fan of truffle anything and we definitely did it to the max with these picks (all of which are completely flavorful and delicious). I definitely recommend both options as well as the Wild Mushroom Bruschetta which was one of my favorite things I tried. Excuse forgetting to take a photo, I gobbled it right up. We also enjoyed the Seared Tuna Bruschetta. The only downside with the bruschetta’s in general are that they are actually a “small bite” and only come with one per order. So while delicious maybe you opt for the Funghi Pizza (Fontina, grilled portobello, sautéed cremini, rosemary, truffle oil). Also another delicious choice, but unfortunately we ate it before the camera could.

TRUFFLE FRENCH FRIES
Truffle oil, Parmigiano Reggiano, Italian herbs
PICCANTE
Mozzarella, San Marzano tomato sauce, pepperoni, red pepper flakes, honey

If you want something not truffle and mushroom related, the Picannte pizza was also a good option. I enjoyed it, but will say it is just a really good pepperoni pizza, and it lacked a little of the “piccante” I expected.

Sangria

If your not trying one of the thousand wines, I highly recommend you get the Sangria, especially if you are dining with a group of girlfriends. The portion is enormous, it is quite delicious..and boozy. Lightweights be warned.

Another great thing about Sputino is that the space is very cool and really spacious so its great for large parties as well. It is also conveniently located in the Gallery at Westbury shopping center and is very close to Roosevelt Field mall so it is a perfect option for a bite after your shopping spree.
