NOW IN NYC: JULY

now in nyc events and happenings for july

July in New York has a particular quiet to it — half the city seems to be on a plane to somewhere in Europe or already installed in the Hamptons, and the pace shows it. Fewer openings, fewer must-attend nights, more room to actually notice what’s still happening for those of us sticking around. That leaves more room to notice the best of what’s still happening across New York City and Long Island. July traded crowded calendars for more thoughtful experiences—an intimate fashion preview, a beautifully considered dinner, and restaurants I’d happily return to. These are the moments that defined New York for me this month.

Hayeli NYC Collection Preview

First, HAYELI New York’s launch preview — an intimate evening built around martinis, sushi, and a first look at the collection ahead of the brand’s SoHo opening this fall. The pieces themselves lean into a streetwear-meets-structural-art sensibility — graffiti-inspired detailing and sheer fabrics worked into genuinely considered silhouettes, all held together by a tight, wearable black, white, and grey palette. It’s the kind of collection that makes fine art feel like something you can actually put on. No big production, just genuine access to a brand still writing its own story.

Samantha Pleet x Hannah Kristina Metz Collaboration Launch

Then, an equally intimate dinner celebrating Samantha Pleet and Hannah Kristina Metz’s new collaboration — a collection that reads as effortless on its surface but carries real weight underneath: two longtime friends finally making their creative overlap official. The real showstopper of the night was the table itself. The chef built a spread designed to be eaten with your eyes first — a zero-waste approach carried all the way down to kale-leaf plates standing in for dishware, with every scrap composted rather than tossed. It turned dinner into part of the collection’s story rather than just the setting for it.

Dining & Hospitality

Lobster rolls at Sunset Club Tappen Beach

The slower social calendar left more room for actually good meals, and July delivered a few standouts worth flagging. At Sunset Club, Tappen Beach, a lobster roll stuffed to the brim was the clear standout of the visit. Hendrick’s in Roslyn never disappoints — this time it was a bone marrow steak tartare, a tuna tartare, and a quinoa salad all worth returning for on their own. Matteo’s of Roslyn brought a trio worth remembering: truffle pappardelle, lobster ravioli, and a red snapper that held its own against the pasta. And Sparrow Tavern in Garden City rounded out the month with a short rib crostini, a peach and prosciutto flatbread, and a Tuscan kale salad that’s become a new favorite.

Two nights out, four exceptional meals, and a city quieter than usual — that’s July.
