Pink Grunge Look + Birthday Celebrations at Del Vino

Another year around the sun for me. Given the difficulties from this past year and previous year, this birthday definitely hit differently and I am so grateful for the outpour of love and well wishes I received. For some one who doesn’t usually celebrate, I find myself with a bunch of activities coming up. For the first of the birthday celebrations, I had dinner at Del Vino Vineyards in Long Island. For a place I have visited before multiple times, (check out my previous posts here and here to see my experiences), I thought there was little that could surprise me here, but this time was especially exceptional.

For the look I went kind of pretty and pink meets grunge. My ideal most confident look is an all black one, but I got a little peer pressured to look Valentines Day festive. So we met in the middle. I went with this crushed velvet tank. If you read my last post, you know I find velvet to be a signature Valentines Day style. I paired it with this pink suede duster, because this NYC weather is definitely not conducive to a tank top, and a bunch of layered necklaces. The pearls and chains gives that contrast of “I’m feminine and girly” but also a bad ass. Combined with an all black smokey eye, you definitely achieve some kind of rocker chic look and a more balanced Valentines Day look. It is also perfect for transitioning into Spring fashion styles.

The Food

Del Vino has never disppointed in any category and has always delivered great wine and light bites. We added a few new orders though this time. Here is the rundown:

Imported Cheese Board
Assortment of imported cheeses (creamy parmesan, chèvre, manchego, pecorino tartufo, mascarpone & brie), mini sweet peppers, fig jam, dried apricots-cherries-dates, and marcona almonds served with fresh Italian bread with a touch of extra virgin olive oil
Artisan Meat Cheese Platter
imported cheeses, assorted Italian meats, fig jam, mini sweet peppers, caper berries and marcona almonds served with fresh Italian bread with a touch of extra virgin olive oil

The Artisan Meat and Cheese board is our go-to at Del Vino and always a winner. Everything is always so fresh and delicious and the portions are so generous. What I never realized though is that the extra order of the imported cheese board is ALSO a must. The quality is so evident and there are some cheeses that you need to try that aren’t served on the combination board, like the pecorino tartufo (aka laced with truffle). There really is no overlap, and its all so good, you won’t regret getting both.

Braised Lamb Shank with Polenta

Some of the menu items we got were specials (maybe due to Valentines Day, maybe they change it up depending on the weekend.) Either way if you find the lamb shank, the grilled octopus, or the porcini pizza(not photographed), order them! As Del Vino doesn’t typically advertise itself as a restaurant, we were blown away with the dishes we ordered. The flavor and technique at how everything was cooked was so impressive. And we are Greek, meaning we have high standards for grilled octopus. Everything was really delicious.

Grilled Octopus
Artichoke Formaggio
grilled long-stem artichoke hearts, sautΓ©ed in garlic & oil, smothered in melted mozzarella cheese & sprinkled with homemade bread crumbs

This Artichoke and Cheese dish is on the regular menu and you guessed it, a must order! Aside from the charcuterie and the specials we tried this time, this is my favorite thing served at Del Vino.

I just included the basics of how to create this black smokey eye and the lip combo I used (exact one was by Makeup Forever and Tarte.) Let me know if you’d like a full tutorial/ product info for the full makeup look.
