Who doesn’t love a good steakhouse style dinner with those comfort food sides and an effortless dessert. These made great recipes to entertain with and are so easy to achieve yet delicious and pretty impressive. They are great options to cook for mom and dad with Mothers Day and Fathers Day around the corner. 

Strip Steak With Red Wine Mushroom Sauce

  • 2 tablespoons olive oil

  • 2 (10 to 12-ounce) New York strip steaks, about 3/4-inch thick

  • Kosher salt and freshly ground pepper

  • 8 ounces cremini mushrooms, sliced

  • 1 shallot, finely chopped

  • 2 teaspoons chopped fresh thyme leaves

  • 1 cup dry red wine

  • 3 tablespoons butter

  1. Add the oil to a large cast-iron skillet over medium-high heat. Heat until the oil is very hot.
  2. Season the steaks with salt and pepper. Add the steaks to the skillet and sear the steaks on each side for 4 minutes for medium. Remove the steaks to a plate and loosely cover with foil.
  3. Lower the heat to medium and add the mushrooms, shallot, and thyme to the pan and saute until the mushrooms begin to brown and soften, about 5 minutes. You may need to add a bit more oil to the pan. Add the red wine and scrap the bottom of the pan to get the browned bits.
  4. Let the liquid reduce by half, 7 to 8 minutes. Remove from the heat and swirl in 3 tablespoons butter to finish the sauce. Serve the steak with mushroom red wine sauce drizzled over the top.

Cheesy Potatoes Au Gratin

  • Butter, at room temperature
  • 1 shallot, minced
  • 2 cups heavy cream
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • Kosher salt and freshly ground pepper
  • 3 medium russet potatoes (about 2 1/4 pounds), peeled and sliced 1/8-inch thick
  • 2 cups grated sharp white Cheddar cheese
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan
  1. Heat oven to 375 degrees F. Butter a 1 1/2 to 2-quart baking dish and sprinkle with just a bit of the shallot.
  2. Add the heavy cream to a medium saucepan along with the remaining shallot, garlic, salt and pepper. Place over medium heat and bring to a simmer while stirring. Let simmer until you see the liquid begin to thicken, 2 to 3 minutes.
  3. Layer 1/3 of the sliced potatoes in the baking dish, cover with some Cheddar and a sprinkling of Parmesan; repeat the layering 2 more times.
  4. Pour the hot liquid over the potatoes. Add the remaining cheese, cover with foil, and bake for 1 hour, then remove the foil to bake until the cheese is golden and brown, 15 to 20 minutes. Let rest for 10 minutes before slicing so it can settle.

  • 1 pound bag frozen peas, thawed

  • 1 tablespoon sliced fresh mint

  • Kosher salt and freshly ground pepper

    1. Melt the butter in a large saute pan over medium-high heat. Once melted and foamy, add the onion, garlic, and red pepper flakes and saute until tender, about 2 to 3 minutes. Season with salt and pepper. Add the heavy cream and let thicken, stirring for just 1 minute.
    2. Add the peas and the mint and cook until the peas are bright green and warmed through, another 5 minutes.

Ice Cream With Brown Sugar Bourbon Sauce

  • 1/2 stick butter
  • 1/2 cup light brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons corn syrup
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1 tablespoon bourbon
  • big pinch of salt
  • vanilla ice cream
  1. Combine butter, brown sugar, corn syrup, and heavy cream and heat until thickened mixing often
  2. Remove from heat and add bourbon
  3. Mix in a big pinch of salt
  4. Allow to cool slightly before serving atop ice cream
