The Best Powder Foundation On The Market #TBT

As I may have mentioned I have always been a full coverage makeup kind of person. But as my skin has cleared up (definitely check out one of my secrets here) I have been open to lighter coverage makeup looks and foundations. I would have never in a million years considered a powder foundation. First off, I have dry skin. A powder product is definitely not what I gravitate towards. Secondly, how much could it possibly cover? What would its lasting power be without something cream or liquid underneath. I had tons of doubts BUT I gave the Makeup Forever Velvet Matter Powder Foundation a chance.

I wish my reaction was recorded. One swipe, and using the sponge applicator that it came with no less (also a shocker for me), and I had beautiful coverage and quite literally a velvet matte finish. Even as a powder product it doesn’t sit on top of my skin and emphasize the dryness. Sometimes if I have some good skin prep, my skin even looks glowy. As I mentioned as well, the coverage really isn’t that sheer. You can definitely get a light medium look that makes the skin look balanced and natural.

These photos are completely untouched, no smoothing or editing any of the imperfections. As you can see, it doesn’t just erase everything. For example you can still see the little burn mark on my forehead – which I didn’t even apply much product too and some other dark spots are still visible as well. But for the most part the skin is completely even. I added some simple makeup using some throwback products like the Anastasia Beverly Hills Modern Renaissance Palette and a little pop of color on the lips for a light Spring look. I’ll tag all the products used below.

I kept it super simple. After the powder foundation I just used a little concealer under the eyes, mixed some of the contour shades from the Anastasia palette, and used the blush shade in the palette as well. I did not use a highlighter at all.

Just some shades you might want to know:
Foundation: Y315
Maybelline Lipstick: Change Is Good
Eyeliner: Killer Chocolate
Modern Renaissance Palette: (Crease)Mixed Raw Sienna, Golden Ochre and Warm Taupe. (Lid) Mix Primavera and Vermeer

I know that this is by no means a new product review but just as well I am kind of thinking to create some sort of throwback series on the blog. Let’s be honest there are tons of products out there that are a little older that maybe we forgot about, but still stand the test of time in quality. Let me know if thats something you guys would be interested in.
