Holiday Destination Vienna, Austria

vienna austria things to see

As you have read in my last post, Vienna is an overall exceptional destination and the perfect city to visit for your holiday travels. Outside being one of the highest rated destinations in the winter for its Christmas market and festive spirit, let me start off by saying Vienna is STUNNING and there is so much to see and do.

There are endless streets of beautiful and historic architecture, as well as more modern buildings and locations. I didn’t even come close to visiting everything during my few short days and mostly had the basic shell of an experience. As much as I wish as I had the time to really engage in a private tour and delve into each main attraction, it really wasn’t in the cards for me this time. Nonetheless, the time I did spend was 100% worth it and it definitely gives me a reason to come back!

The Donau Canal gives me lots of Williamsburg and Art Basel vibes (which is ironically also currently taking place), decorated with graffiti (in the best of ways) and pop art. I highly recommend giving it a good long walk. Especially during summer, there are tons of “beach bars” and places to eat along the way. If you’re not much of the walker you can also experience the beauty along the canal by taking a river cruise.

Prater Park

No matter what age you are or how much time you have I would suggest a visit to Prater Amusement Park. The giant ferris wheel is one of the main symbols of Vienna and also one of its oldest landmarks. Taking a ride on it will give you some spectacular views of the entire city.

St Stephens Cathedral

Now St. Stephens Cathedral is definitely a can’t miss. One of the most iconic buildings in Vienna and one of Austria’s most prominent symbols. I regret not making the time to climb to the top… DON’T make the same mistake as me!

Kunst House

Kunsthouse, now an art museum, was designed by the artist Friedensreich Hundertwasser .

Vienna is most definitely not a city you can finish exploring in a day, but I hope this is a starting off point of some things to check out.
