Glaswegian for a day: Glasgow, Scottland

scotland travel glasgow guide -

My friend and I have had an inside joke about visiting Glasgow for years now so when the opportunity presented itself, we hopped on it…and of course added a few more stops to the list.

In all honesty, Glasgow is not the place where you’re going to have a historically enriching experience or see the most amazing architecture that exists. There aren’t many notable monuments or major museums to check off your list. HOWEVER. Glasgow has such a fun and unique culture that I would definitely return for.

Glasgow as the second largest city of Scottland definitely serves as a major cultural hub. Glasgow is a UNESCO City of music with a diverse art scene. Some to check out would be the Glasgow Royal Concert Hall and the atmospheric King’s Theatre host everything from classical performances to contemporary shows and some of the city’s museums, like the Kelvingrove Art Gallery.

From the Victorian grandeur of the City Chambers to the modernist designs of the Clyde Arc don’t think that the city isn’t beautiful in its own right. The Glasgow Cathedral, a Gothic masterpiece that dates back to the 12th century is most definitely worth the visit, as is believe it or not, the Neocropolis for some stunning sunset views of the city. Yes, it may just sound like a glorified cemetery, but it is considered on the list of “things to do in Glasgow.”

The people are incredibly friendly and proud of being Glaswegian. We made a friend when inquiring about visiting Ashton Lane (the street that inspired Diagon Alley in Harry Potter) which in actuality is a cute strip of bars. He was super helpful and friendly and not only guided us to Ashton Lane but ended up giving us the real local experience. Down to the “hometown” drink order- it’s a hof and hof (half whisky, half pint of beer). We visited an original whisky distillery called the Pot Still which is home to over 700 types of whisky. It definitely feels authentic and old school. We loved every second here.

Fall Style Tips:

If I said it once, I said it 100 times. The weather in Scottland is unpredictable and layering is definitely key. A good teddy coat is a fall winter staple and is a great stylish layering piece for a multitude of different looks. The camel color especially screams fall to me and I love accessorizing by matching my scarf and hat to my coat as well. The overall denim look is also great for fall and the transitional weather.
