Another resurrected trend: the Bermuda short – and while we are at it let’s include the biker short since it’s lengths and styles are comparable.”Ugly” has been on trend in more ways than one. From the dad sneakers, to now the commonly known “mom short” here we are again facing some controversial style. Trickling down from what we have seen on runways for brands such as Prada, Tibi, Massimo Dutti and more, these shorts are now widespread and finding their way into our closests.
The last time I owned a pair of Bermudas, I was in the 7th grade and they were from Hollister, if that doesn’t paint enough of a picture. Do I have the body type of a slim 14 year old any more. Not so much. But I am still a firm believer in making anything work. It is definitely a style to play around with to find the perfect length, cut, color, and even fabric to flatter you best. Possibly tricky, but not impossible.
The longer short style is intimidating to pair, but seemingly very versatile. Pair it with a blazer and button down for a take on office chic, add a crop top and tight pair or biker shorts for that effortless I just have to run some errands look. For many of the denim styles, you can still treat it as your basic and wear it with your favorite staple items (plain white tee, double denim, leather jacket, etc). Some even wear the style for a night out.
Especially during warmer seasons, one recommendation I would have would be to keep your footwear simple, and nothing too bulky. The length of Bermudas can have a tendency to cut your leg at an awkward place, creating a “stumpy” looking illusion. Sandals, simple pumps, or basic tennis sneakers would help avoid this by leaving some surface area to see some leg.
Otherwise have fun with it. There are a few ways seen below in which the style can work.
