I am immediately reminded of the Devil Wears Prada scene “Florals, for spring, groundbreaking”, but it’s true. Plaid during the fall is hardly anything innovative and yet it is a style we all tend to incorporate in the autumn months. Plaid is essentially a fall neutral, often in those warm earth tone colors with tons of versatility for style combinations and and evokes that cozy casual feeling.
Classic Flannel Top
Nothing says fall more than a flannel – literally of any kind and any color but this is the apple and pumpkin picking uniform. Rock it with sneakers or booties but it is a staple in anyone’s fall wardrobe. I love that this one is mixed print and a wrap style. I think both add a very special touch. For full on lumberjack vibes, but personally one of my go-to fall boots, pair them with a construction boot like these Timberlands to really feel the fall spirit. During the transitional months you can pair your flannels with shorts but it of course goes just as well with jeans or even leather leggings.
Plaid Shirtdress
Easily paired with booties or even cool sneakers. On this day, the weather was warm so you’re seeing it styled with sandals but there really is no shortage of ways to style this dress and it make for an effortless fall look. You can even leave the buttons undone for more of a cardigan style look.
Jacket and Shackets
Trench style or shorter, the plaid jacket is a very stylish choice to keep warm as the weather transitions. Neutral colors go with pretty much anything and again, easily styled with shoes and outfit of your choice.
For a bonus I went very matchy-matchy with these plaid sneakers. Since both are neutral, the plaids don’t clash and in fact complement each other. I would say a tip when styling anything plaid is to pull out the neutral grounding color and using that as the focal color point if you want to accessorize it.
