Where to Eat in Sedona, Arizona.

Do you want the good news or the bad news first….
Bad news is, EVERYTHING shuts down in Sedona around 9pm -definitely a culture shock for a New Yorker such as myself.
The Good News…Sedona’s food culture is amazing and really has so many unique restaurants that you can’t go wrong with.

Things to note across the board:
The service and waitstaff in Sedona is incredible. Truly some of the sweetest servers I have met.

Creekside

Cute casual spot with classic American food done right. Spoiler alert: I still dream about the peach cobbler.

Shrimp and Grits: Gulf White Shrimp, Crispy Pork Belly, Cheesy Grits, Buttery Leeks< Green Onions, Spicy Red Hot Chillu Sauve

This was a delicious entree. There were some great nuances in the flavors of this that went beyond that classic comfort food style shrimp and grits. I would definitely say a must order.

White Cheddar Burger: Ground short rib, White cheddar, pickle, caramelized onions, mushrooms, Cajun remoulade, Dipping Sauce

I would say this is a good standard burger. Sorry I can’t comment more as I may not be able to judge without bias. Since I split this with a friend and compromised on it being cooked medium (I always order medium rare) it kind of messed with my taste buds. I am SUPER particular of how my meat is cooked, and therefore once it tips over the pink threshold, I can barely judge the other flavors anymore — its like they aren’t even there. Harsh but true…
Again not Creeksides fault – My friend really enjoyed the burger.

If you come to Creekside for anything….Or Sedona for that matter, DO NOT LEAVE WITHOUT GETTING THIS PEACH COBBLER. We had it on our first night and it came up in conversation throughout the whole trip. We recommended it to everyone we crossed paths with including Sedona locals. It is far beyond your average peach cobbler, and instead of biscuit is made of gooey undercooked (in the best way possible) vanilla cake, peaches, and ice cream. SO delicious, I’m salivating thinking of it. We even grabbed the recipe from them.

Mariposa

A Lisa Dahl restuarant, Mariposa is one of those spots equally as famous for the dinner with the view, as well as the food. With its gorgeous grounds, floor to ceiling windows, and great food, it is definitely worth visiting.

Prickly Pear Swizzle
Corralejo Tequila, Prickly Pear Syrup, Lime Juice, Dash of Bitters, Splash of Soda, and Lime Plank
Mariposa
Corralejo Blanca Tequila, Ancho Chili Liqueur, Mango Puree, Agave, Lime Juice, Fresno Chili Pepper~up~Spicy!

I had the Mariposa. As the restaurants namesake, I definitely recommend this. I love spicy cocktails and this was a great one.

Empanadas: Portobello, Poblano, Caramelized Onions, 3 Queso & Chimichurri

I really was looking forward to trying the empanadas. These were tasty, although I definitely wish I could have tried the corn version.

Pulpo Parrilla ~ Grilled Spanish Octopus, Smoky Garbanzo PurΓ©e, Fire-roasted Artichoke, Fennel Slaw

A nice and balanced appetizer. There are definitely some great flavors and textures on this plate.

Meat Trio ~ 6oz. Filet Mignon Center Cut with Signature Mushroom Gorgonzola Chipotle Sauce, Two Bone-in Lamb Lollipops with Roasted Yellow Pepper Coulis & Cilantro Mint Pesto, Spicy Chorizo Sausage Link with Roasted Rosemary Potatoes & Marinated Artichoke Hearts

If you can never decide what you want to order, the meat trio is a great route to take. A medley of completely different flavors and everything was well cooked. The sauces were also a really nice compliment to the meats.

Lisa’s Lovely Lemon Mashed Potatoes with Luscious Lobster Scampi

Might have been my favorite thing we ordered from Mariposa. Velvety smooth and incredibly delicious lobster. Don’t skip on these.

Cowboy Club

Named quite appropriately, this awesome outback experience in what I imagine to be an “old boys cowboy club”. There is one more upscale room for dinner, and another room beside it serving a slightly different menu and more casual diner like ambience. We had some unique dishes here and were impressed with each of them.

As we sat with our menus, we were given these gorgeous looking deviled eggs. They were equally delicious.

Appetizer Sampler
Original Cactus Fries, Rattlesnake Sausage, Bison Brochettes and Cilantro Flat Bread served with a
Trio of Sauces

Plain and simple. I love cactus fries. I love their lightness, spiciness, and they go so well with that prickly pear dipping sauce. The alligator sausage was great and is definitely worth the experience too, you know to say you tried alligator. The Bison was definitely a hit, as it literally melts in your mouth and the sauce was delicious. Finally the flatbread was really fluffy and quite good with that peanut butter dipping sauce, a very unique bite.

Wild Game Trio
4oz Bison Tenderloin, Wild Boar Chop & an Elk Chop served with Roasted Sweet Potato,
SautΓ©ed Asparagus and Tart Cherry Demi

Every single thing on this plate was delicious. They were all super flavorful, seasoned well, and different from one another making it really exciting to eat. Where else would you say you had elk, bison, boar all at once. Perfection.

Cheesecake Bites

Completely stuffed from dinner, our sweet waitress brought out these complimentary cheesecake bites. We of course had to make room for them and they were not disappointing.

Elote Cafe

Basically everyone raves about Elote, locals and tourists alike. I am most definitely one of those people. The food at Elote was phenomenal. There are no reservations but make sure you carve out the time to stop by.

Regular and Spicy Prickly Pear Margaritas

Love and Love.

Elote: Fire Roasted corn with spicy mayo, lime and cotija cheese

This is the BEST, I repeat, the BEST, corn dish I have ever had in my life and I don’t even know what it is about it. Kind of creamy, kind of chunky, lots and lots of flavor. You really just have to go see for yourself.

Corn Crusted Scallops: Lightly fried jumbo sea scallops served with homade tomato jam and white truffle crema

Our waiter recommended the corn crusted scallops, and I am so grateful that we listened. This entree was perfection. There’s a lot of different flavors and textures going on but it works together so harmoniously. Loved it.

Lamb in Adobo: Braised Colorado lamb shank served with sweet and spicy ancho chile sauce

A classic, staple dish on the Elote menu and they definitely do it well. Delicious fall off the bone meat and a lovely sauce to go with it.

Even the fanciest spots in Sedona don’t require too much dressing up. I think a nice clean, crisp blouse with some jeans was perfect. I also like how something so simple could be accessorized and made a little more special with the green snakeskin or really any color pump. You will definitely be seeing these trending during the Spring especially.

  1. Love this post, mouth watering food and style to wear while we are dining. Can’t wait to get back to normalality. Stay safe and well.

    1. I think that might be a smart move, although peach cobbler will never be the same after that!
Also, there are TONS of normal options at Cowboy Club, anything you’d find at a regular steakhouse. I just like to experiment and get the most unique/authentic experience I can.
