Frederick Anderson SS25 & Embracing Globalism

What I love about Frederick Anderson is how in every collection he stays true to his roots. Whether incorporating his background in the arts and dance, or his African culture. Whether it be his famous crochets or always including some sheer sex appeal in his designs, there is a clear line of what connects Anderson’s collections and yet always something distinctive brought to the table.

This collection in particular hones in on Anderson’s experience in how he sees Africa and was inspired by the designer’s travels through Northern Africa, specifically Marrakech and Tangier. Pulling from the “heritage of ease” with lightweight fabrics that are effortless and airy, perfect for the season at hand, and then moving into a series of glamorous lace and beaded ensembles. The show moved very day-to-night, very office chic to red carpet, which I think is a huge part of the Frederick Anderson ethos.

There is clear consideration of the culture and tradition behind where designs are inspired from, including earthy tones and patterns reminiscent of the African climate as well as in the intricate and unique accessories incorporated. Also, the animal prints used, I mean hello, African Safari! However while transported there is a modernism to the looks and with the Afro-pop music in the background.

The point is that there is no longer a total duality to fashion. We are in a globalist era of interconnection and it is time that we start embracing that. I am glad Frederick Anderson has.
