As per the title, I visited New Orleans for the first time ever and completely fell in love with the city. Not necessarily in the way that most people do with the excessive drinking, partying, and debachaury but really enjoying New Orleans and it’s incredible culture. NOLA is so unique from other places I have visited in the states. I definitely felt out of my normal realm of living in comparison to that of New York City. Life and people are very different here and in a great way. You definitely feel that southern hospitality and charm but with lot’s of vibrancy and life. The food is INCREDIBLE and that was probably the largest basis of my trip – a huge food marathon in addition to some classic New Orleans originated cocktails. You know I will definitely have to dedicate a whole post to that, but I figure I would ease you guys in.

As I mentioned in my last post (see here) the satin slip midi skirt is really on trend this fall and so versatile. This time I wore this cute floral print skirt and a crop top in the color of the season: rust/burnt orange. It matches exceptionally as the flowers in the skirt are of similar tone and I also love how the skirt is grounded in a dark color as to not feel too along the lines of a “florals for spring” moment. I wore it with this bulky oversized denim jacket for a little contrast and some converse sneakers to walk around in comfortably while also giving the look a little more of a casual feel.

Jackson Square

Probably one of the biggest landmarks in New Orleans, this square also has a ton of history behind it. Currently it is a lively park filled with live music, local artist stands, tarrot card readers, and parades passing by left and right. It is also located right across from St Louis Cathedral and on the other side is a cross frin the famous Cafe du Mond, where you MUST try the beignets and chickory coffee.

Voodoo Museum

One of the cultural aspects New Orleans is known for it’s a heritage in Voodoo. As slaves were brought to Louisiana, they continued to practice their religion known as voodoo and began to merge their beliefs with Catholicism. Voodoo has been made sinister by Hollywood but is in fact a very religious practice, still used today. The museum provides so much information and artifacts about the fascinating history of Voodoo. I highly recommend you checking out. Website: here.

Preservation Hall

This was one of the most amazing and authentic experiences of my whole trip. Preservation Hall has been hosting nightly intimate acoustic jazz performances by local bands since the 1950s. The interior seems to never have been renovated and there is a beautiful simplicity in this experience. For some one who doesn’t listen to jazz on a regular basis, you can definitely feel so much appreciation for the music and the band who is truly passionate about simply playing and doing what they love. There is no frills to this place, but it has an inherent beauty and life. It is a must when visiting New Orleans and if you do not reserve a ticket ahead of time, be warned the lines will be long and you will have to stand in the back. Website: here.

Jazz on Bourbon Street
Obviously due to the virus, this is not a typical view of bourbon street but there was indeed lot’s of street jazz and performances.
